Boo...and YEAY!
On the downside...

My doormat has been gifted with vague political hyperbole from (strictly in alphabetical order!) the BNP, the Greens, the Liberal Democrats and UKIP. Woo! They insist that we can achieve absolutely nothing in the EU, or absolutely nothing out of the EU, and, whilst I am moderately fond of some of the work done by Greens on the local scale, their MEP candidate seems peculiarly obsessed with a certain Italian political movement of the 1920s and 30s. Come on people, focus! What are you actually going to do if my beautiful vote gets you your own expense account!

And, joy of joys, I have bumpf from Giordano Bruno and the Cameron Clan to look forward to!

On the upside...

Eddie Izzard is performing at the Grand Theatre next Tuesday evening.

The reason the Green candidate is banging on about fascists is that due to the proportional representation system of the EU parliament, the first four parties past the post get a seat, and the fourth seat for this constituency is likely to go either to the Greens or the BNP. Since the BNP have avowed policies of sending all coloured people back to their "own" countries, no matter how many generations their families have lived here, are rabidly anti-Muslim and deny the Holocaust, I can see why a vote for the Greens to keep the BNP out might be a good idea. Do we really want Nick Griffin (who has a previous conviction for inciting racial hatred) representing us in Europe?

Oh aye, I appreciate the logic of tactical voting in the EU proportional representation set-up, I just prefer to vote for someone based on what they plan to do, rather than on how their presence will stop someone else doing what they want to do.

Yes, I must admit that at the EU level the Greens seem to be woefully short of actual policies. But so do all the other parties. Perhaps we should choose our favourite colour.

Would that mean that we could call the political decision-making process the multi-coloured swap shop? ... :o)

Well, I doubt that Noel Edmunds and Keith Chegwin running the country would be worse than the present incumbents...
